The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) was passed in 2015 to replace No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and encourage K-12 schools to spend federal money on evidence-based instructional programs. The Evidence for ESSA website helps school leaders make these important decisions by publishing ratings of educational programs in terms of how their research meets ESSA evidence standards.
LXD Research is proud to announce that Evidence for ESSA recently approved our research study on the 95 Phonics Core Program with a rating of “Promising.” The 95 Phonics Core Program is a Tier 1 phonics program for K-3 students. Daily lessons are 20-30 minutes long and provide structured explicit instruction in phonics to address and prevent skill gaps. 95 Phonics Core Program classroom kits include teacher materials, manipulatives, and student workbooks.
To earn Evidence for ESSA approval, LXD Research conducted a study during the 2021-2022 school year in a Missouri school district, which included over 3000 K-2 students in 14 different schools. In a randomized control trial, control schools used their existing phonics curriculum, while treatment schools replaced this with PCP. By the end of the year, students in schools using the PCP saw significant gains above the students in comparison schools in reading scores. The 95 Phonics Core Program is the first 95 Percent Group product to receive Evidence ESSA approval for its research.
